The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy the horror genre: Settle in with your loved one and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its online premiere on Hulu. On the surface, it could look like typical body horror, but within Together lies a deep examination about the ways we decide to love our partners.

A Directorial Debut Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Millie and Tim, partners that have been together for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, the two stars infuse a unique chemistry to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The story begins when Millie and Tim transition from the urban environment to the countryside for Millie’s job. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s primarily where the tropes cease. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their country house, a tempest descends, and the two discover an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity starts to affect the couple. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past simple connection.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying of scares, weaving in bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) body horror, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes amidst something horrific). The director orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is only the two lead actors, and they deftly portray countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and removed from his support system. He is terrified of the concept of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is amplified by the reality he can’t drive and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

The couple confront the type of challenges that come with long-term unions after ten years. Deep down, they still love one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these anxieties of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the allegory never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have seen the movie as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could function as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion plant anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an exploration you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform at present.
